 General Description of Thantifaxath

This is the Qliphotic Tunnel 22, which is the road between the dark spheres of Lilith and Gamaliel, is under the aegis of Thantifaxath. This tunnel, or its Sephirotic equivalent, does not exist in the original, perfect Tree of Life that was in the Garden before the Fall. This is nothing less than the path that goes right down to the material level from the astral plane. On the original, perfect Tree of Life before the Fall neither Malkuth-Lilith nor the material plane existed. Instead, man lived in an astral Garden of Eden which represented Yesod. Only when Daäth fell from its original location was the material plane born.

Thantifaxath is one of the archdemons of the Tunnels of Set– i.e. the pathways between the ten realms of Hell or the Qliphoth. Despite the fact that it is the first pathway which the apsidomancer (witch who works with demons) will encounter, it is called  either the thirty-second pathway or the twenty-second pathway, depending upon whether or not the numeration includes the ten spheres. It lies between the first two realms of the Qliphoth, which are ruled by Nahema/Na’amah and Lilith.

Thantifaxath’s name means “Great Ghoul”, and the pathway over which he presides is filled with larvae, ghouls, succubi, incubi, and corpse candles which can teach the witch to exchange her carnal inclinations for metaphysical desires. This is the pathway which leads from Universe A, the material/causal plane, to Universe B, the spiritual/acausal plane(s). Perhaps this explains why it is filled with ghosts. This suggests that the pathway and its sentinel is auspicious in operations of necromancy and astral projection.

Linda Falorio, designer of the Shadow Tarot, describes Thantifaxath’s tunnel as follows: “Rising swamp-gas, distorting heat-mirages signify the tunnel’s entrance which exists in the wavering interface between the worlds of inner tellurian space and stellar consciousness. Here all has been arranged for performance of the ancient Elder Rites. Trees of Darkness, cypress swamp, bayous filled with ghouls and larvae of the pit celebrate with choreiform dancing dread Odun, the African Sabbath, Saint John’s Eve, while corpse candles’ phosphorescent glare illumines the gate/mouth/sipapu through which Zangbeto, “people of the night,” Lovecraftian transhuman horrors—the Old Ones—invade our dimension from the Other Side.”

The tunnel of the Great Ghoul lies between the infernal realm of the Black Earth and that of the Black Moon. calls this tunnel “the bowels of the earth.” Empowering oneself through the energies of this pathway can serve to bring about the alchemical process of purification via putrefaction (nigredo/blackening) as well as the attainment of visions and the awakening of one’s psychic senses. The celebrant’s dreams may become (more) spiritually charged as well. This pathway exhibits sanguine and sexual imagery, and the lustful experiences it imparts subject the celebrant to oscillations of pleasure and pain.

Thantifaxath most often appears to me as a bearded, cadaverous spectre with white corpse-flesh, levitating in a black cloak with billowing sleeves. He has alternately appeared to me with charcoal-grey corpse flesh with prominent scarring and long, black fingernails. Either way, his eyes are pure black.

Quoting Falorio again, “Powers we may [attain in the thirty-second tunnel] are the ability to cross dimensions, to bridge boundaries, to link inner and outer, to communicate with denizens of parallel worlds: fairies, yetis, elves. Here is power to understand and to use the raw energy of time inherent in its cycles, and here is the Time Lord’s power to transcend its limitations, to relate to eternal NOW—no “lusting for result.” Here is self-regeneration, as well as regeneration of the energy envelope of Earth, and re-greening of the planet through time-binding stellar winds into the bionic life web.”

Thantifaxath’s specialties are death curses, psychic vampyrism, and sound sorcery. He can be called upon for the causation of bloodshed in mass. He can guide one through the Trans-Qliphothic Labyrinth (extremely dangerous; seek guidance). He can make things go unnoticed or unseen by outside forces, including magickal efforts. He rules the creation and destruction of thoughtforms, which is a very useful trait. He can bring about the alteration of mundane circumstances and nullify previously cast magickal spells by devouring them.

Thantifaxath is knowledgable concerning the Great Work in general and may help one achieve it. He specializes in leadership and can inspire the witch to it as well as advise her regarding it. He can bring about beginnings and endings. He can cause annihilation, bring about completion, and help one start a new life.

Thantifaxath can bring about the alleviation of depression and torpor, and he can help the witch move on or leave the past behind. He is useful in the dissolution of the witch’s false self-image.

An Occultist by the name of Frater 414 performed a series of pathworkings with the sentinels of the Tunnels of Set. When he encountered Thantifaxath, the spirit was warming himself by a fire, and offered the celebrant a seat. Frater 414 recorded the following quotes by Thantifaxath in his experiments with the Tunnels of Set: “I am very old… No one in the kingdom likes me so they make me stay down here… The kingdom needs me because I keep track of time. Without me there is no time and nothing could exist. People do not want to age. They try to stay young. That’s why they don’t like me. Son, on your path, you must be patient. ”Take your time” Do not rush through things just to get them done. They will not be done right and you will accomplish nothing. People think that time is so short that they must rush through everything. That is not true. Do things slowly y and understand all that you do, or do not do them. People also think that time is an illusion. Boy, you are going to die! Maybe not today, maybe not right now, but you will. The time in your current body is limited. So do not be idle and waste time. If time was an illusion, death is an illusion. But death is real or you.” (sic)

The Gematria of Thantifaxath

1040 which is the number of Thantifaxath is also the number of of the Temenos (the precinct of a temple), and of Choros, which according to The Canon was « a dance by which the earliest worshippers invoked the deity, moving with measured steps around the altar. »[1]

The Sigil of Thantifaxath

The sigil of Thantifaxath is to be painted on a black rectangle rayed with blue. In this kala is resumed the entire range of macro- and microcosmic kalas. Sixteen kalas are alloted to the macrocosm, and sixteen to the microcosm. The 32nd kala is, in a sense, the second sixteenth and as such pertains to Earth, the earth or base of the entire series of kalas and the anode and cathode are linked or earted to the Tau[2] that has its origin in the subconsciousness, thus the sigil includes the geomantic figure of Acquisitio which is attributed to the number nine, and which, in this manner, is informed by the fiery Sagittarius – hence the electrical nature of Thantifaxath an dits earthing in the hidden chthonian cells. These are typified by the forces of restriction and incarceration symbolized by Saturn.

Zodiacal/Planetary Correspondence for Thantifaxath

Thantifaxath corresponds to the letter T that symbolizes the darkness. Saturn and Tau. The T sign is connected to the Greek Omega, and both letters denote the turning point where death and life converge at a crossroad. They represent the womb, the Matrix and the fallopian tubes.

The Magical Siddhi of Thantifaxath

The magical siddhi of this kala comprise Works of Malediction and Death, and the sickle of Saturn – The Great One of the Night of Time – is the supreme emblem of this Tunnel which is the resort of ghouls and larvae of the pit lit by the lurid phosphorescent glare of corpse candles. The As hand Cypress, the Nightshade, the Elm, and the Yew, are the trees of darkness in whose shadows the tunnel disapears into the deapest cells of the earth. Yet this tunnel has affinities with the ocean of space through its association with Set, the child of the Goddess of the Seven Stars whose planetary vehicle is Saturn.

The Animal Correspondence for Thantifaxath : the Crocodile

Sebek, the crocodile, is the zoomorphic emblem of this tunnel, and Mako – a name of Set as the son of Typhon and the powers of darkness – is the secret deity of this nethermost cell. The God Terminus also belongs here, for this outpost of the cosmic system is truly the end of the cosmic vibrations which, from this point, return to their source in the star.

Tarot Correspondence for Thantifaxath : The World (Universe)

On the perfect Tree, this path or tunnel used to link Daath and Tiphareth. But because man had eaten from the fruit of knowledge, Daath fell into the Abyss and Malkuth-Lilith came into existence. The Tarot key that corresponds to this path is entitled The World in a deck of the traditional Tarot of Marseille or is entitled The Universe in Aleister Crowley’s Thoth Tarot. This card illustrates the birth of the material plane. The woman that we can see in the card is the fallen Sophia, or Shekinah. This is the cosmic force, Shakti, that is manifested as Maya, the mother of illusions and dualities. Sofia-Shekinah-Shakti represents the knowledge that is Daath, which is manifested from vision (Kether-Chokmah-Binah) to reality through force and action. This path, or tunnel, represents the stage when an idea is finally manifested on the material plane.

The African Deity Correspondence for Thantifaxath

In the African complex of powers associated with the 32nd kala are the Ogboni and the Egungun which typify the most dreaded occult organizations in the whole of Africa. It is here also, in the depth of earth as in the most outflung gulf of blackest space, that the Odun or African Sabbath is celebrated with the primal rites of the Elder Gods who serve the Great One of the Night of Time. The Zangbeto or ‘people of the night who come from the other side of the sea’[3] also haunt this power-zone of finality and death.

The Disease Typical of Thantifaxath

The disease typical of this kala is arteriosclerosis, the hardening of the arteris that is the adjunct of senility and the onset of the final rigor.

The Dark Doctrine Correspondence for Thantifaxath

According to Kenneth Grant « the works of this tunnel include incarceration or ‘tying up as a corpse’ in the swathing of eternity. »[4] This is the origin of a deadly form of sorcery which consist in imprisoning souls in space by a curious method that has been described by Michael Bertiaux. The prospective victims of this particular form of attack are placed – symbolicaly [5] – in a diamond shaped figure : « To intensify their confinement, mentally you will fold the diamond into the triad, so that two persons will struggle to occupy each of the three remaining angles of this form, which each have enough magical space for only one person. This will cause their objective conflict as they fight to occupy the same psychic and mental situs […] By this method many enemies have dies of occult suffocation, because they have been cut off from cosmic vitality by means of the magical walls of innermost space. »[6]

The Magickal Formula of Thantifaxath

The 32nd Path transmits the astral energies of Yesod to the sphere of Malkuth thereby effecting the final ‘earthling’ of all the kalas and influences that have streamed through the tunnels form Pluto (Kether) to Earth (Malhuth). But at this utmost and final earthing of the cosmic current a sudden reversal occurs; and this is the formula of Magick itself, that the Current having earthed itself in Malkuth[7] now turns back upon itself and streaks up the Tree to dissolve in its source in the transcosmic centres of energy represented by Kether.

 The Appropriate Verse of Liber CCXXXI for Thantifaxath

Thus ‘Malkuth is in Kether and Kether is in Malkuth, through after a different manner’. The Bride is celebrated in the final verse of Liber CCXXXI with the words : « And in the heart of the Sphinx[8] danced the Lord Adonai,[9] in his garlands of roses and pearls making glad the concourse of things, yea making glad the concourse of things. »

Symbolism of Thantifaxath : the Dark Self-Birth Process

This path, or tunnel, also represents birth, such as that when the child is separated from the body of the mother. The planet Saturn, which corresponds to this level, represents the principle that cuts the navel string. In myths, this is the final step in the separation of man from God after the Fall. The descent from the astral level of Yesod to Malkuth represents the expulsion from the Garden of Eden. It is on this level that Eve becomes fertile and gives to birth to her child. Eve loses her astral virginity on Yesod and becomes the fertile mother., Eve, on the material level. The bannished Eve who has become a mother belongs to the sphere of Malkuth. She is the woman who, through her pregnancy, gives birth to a body from her body, and is thus the principle of duality and matter.

The opposite of Malkuth is Lilith, the dark shadow of Eve. The dark Lilith is not the archetypical mother, but rather the feminine slayer of children and an archetypal representative of the phase of menstruation. Contrary to normal ordinary females, Lilith does not give birth to physical children but uses the fertile force for magical ends. During dark rites and magical operations, she absorbs the force from menstruation and the semen of men to direct it towards the dark Abyss. In the middle of this Abyss is Lucifer. To ordinary people, Lilith is a vampire, but to the dark adept she is an initiator who leads the adept towards the dark illumination. Lucifer is an embodiment of the Drakon principle, the divine all-seeing in which will and reality have become one.

Thantifaxath : The Tunnel that Leads Out of the Creation

Thantifaxath is the tunnel which leads the force from the material plane to the dark astral worlds beyond the normal levels of creation. Thantifaxath does not run throughout the levels which are part of normal creation. This is beyond the will of God and a step further from God that the material plane. Through entering the Qliphotic tunels, the magician is deepening the Fall. While the paths of the light are trying to bring man back to childlike state in unity with God, the Qliphotic paths lead away from God. This is a process of liberation where man experiences a magical birth and passes from the state of man to the state of God.

The Inhabitants of Thantifaxath’s Kingdom: the Vampires

On Thantifaxath the magician might encounter vampires and other entities which exist in the in-between the dead and the living. Vampires have their soul in the dark astral kingdom of death on the Ghamaliel Qlipha, but they are active on the material plane through Thantifaxath. They are living through the illusion-ceating moonbeams of Gamaliel and create the illusion of being alive, though they belong to the dead. The legend that vampire cannot survive in the sun, or that they are not visible in mirrors, come sfrom the fact that they are illusions. By their blood-drinking and by sucking other people’s energies they can uphold an illusory existence. Their essence has been lost deeper in the tunnels, but they have stayed on the material level by gaining energy and the essence of their victims. The vampire sucks out this essence on the erotic level. The vampire tries to suck in the energy that is released during orgasms, and the vampire soften appears as sexually attractive. The vampire is only a persona; only the outer shape, or mask, of man. The vampire holds the persona, or mask, alive by sucing life-force from others. Public persons and artists might become unconscious vampires who give up their own existence and personal core to use it to feed the outer picture of themselves. They are feeding on an outer confirmation, the energy that they receive from their surroundings. They must constantly suck in more energy to satisfy an increasing inner emptiness.

Vampirism as a Process of Self-Deification

Thantifaxath represents the first steps on the dark alchemical process of giving birth to oneself. Saturn and the Hebrew letter Tau, which correspond to Thantifaxath, represent death and the end, but are also the gates to the second birth. The adept enters the Matrix of Lilith and prepares to be born into the dark a worlds of Creation. The Matrix of Lilith is the kingdom of death, and to the common man is the gate to rebirth as one’s own creation.

It is common knowledge that countless Dark adepts uses vampirism as a form of dark alchemy. The vampire, just like the alchemist, is someone who has reached immortality. The adept uses the erotic visions on Thantifazath, and the other Qliphotc tunnels, to direct his energy into the dark spheres. The sexual energy is re-focused from the reproductive instinct to the process of self-deification. The vampirism of Lilith is, for the dark adept, an initiation of the sexual energy, where the energy is directed from pure reproductive instinct to the Draconian ‘clear seeing’.

Eve represents biological maternity and sexualty as reproduction. Lilith represents a form of sterile sexuality direted towards self-deification and pleasure. She is the mother of demons rather than physical children and uses her erotic power for magical ends.
