Qulielfi is a succubitic archdemoness, Lunar in nature, of the nature of Chaos, who presides over psychic vampyrism. One appearance of her glimpsed through a channeled vision suggested that she was a being of darkness and light in perfect harmony. Another revealed a red-haired and black-eyed woman in tattered clothes, covered in burn marks. Her fingernails are long and read, and blood streams from her eyes and ears. A chain drags behind her, and she carries the decapitated head of a man. Screams are audible in the distance, and she stands surrounded by flames.

Qulielfi can be called upon to send an incubus or succubus to torment a victim or to perform magickal defense on the witch’s behalf. She assists in the casting of illusions and bewitchments and assists in meditation and the development of visualization skills.

Qulielfi presides over prophetic dreams, bewitchment, visualization, destructive and vampyric sex magick, dream walking, dark rituals, psychic abilities, the discovery of what is hidden, the discovery of what is hidden, and the mysteries of life. She teaches the witch to track and hunt entities on both the astral and causal planes.

According to Alexander Winfield Dray, Qulielfi assists the black magickian in “Developing the Ability to Travel to any physical location within the shadow self and retain memories of the events, eventually leading to the physical manifestation of the Shadow Self.”

Qulielfi awakens the magickian’s thought process and assists her in controlling her destiny. She assists in the construction of new forms and imparts harmony and joy as rewards unto her chosen. She assists the magickian in the discernment of good and evil and establishes a balance between the twin extremes. She magnifies the effort the magickian puts towards her goals and grants assistance in astral projection.

Qulielfi can transmute the third eye of the astral double and bring deception to light. She imparts the ability to detect subtle flirtations and manipulations and grants the sorcerer the ability to psychically sense it when people are observing or performing divination about her. She awakens the magickian’s third eye.

Qulielfi teaches the witch to fashion strange and unique weapons on the astral planes. She assists the magickian in deprogramming and reprogramming thoughtforms/egregores, and she can program spirits of lower power levels to act as the servitors of her summoner—rendering them no different from a thoughtform/egregore of the magickian’s creation. In addition to this, she presides over the fulfillment of the Earth’s renewal.

Qulielfi presides over the Qliphothic pathway or “Tunnel of Set” to which the casting of bewitchments and illusions in general are attributed. This Qliphothic pathway, being the twenty-ninth tunnel of Set, leads from Herab Serapel/A’arab Zaraq (Venus/Bael) to Lilith/Nehemoth (Black Earth/Nahema). According to Linda Falorio:

The need to work with the energies of Qulielfi may be signaled when for no reason we find we are requiring little sleep, or, we may find instead a simple lack of dreams. There may be discomfort with uncertainty and shadow, coupled with lack of imagination; there may be an excess of superstition, of nightmares, and of fear; there may be an abject horror of the preternatural, as expressed in the writing of Lovecraft, et al; and even an irrational dislike of everyday domestic cats.

On the other side, the powers of this tunnel include enhanced imagination, the ability to astral travel, as well as power to affect subtle levels, as in casting spells, and bewitchment. Here is affinity with the Moon, with water, crystals, and natural tides. Here resides prophetic dreams, clairvoyance, and artistic vision which see magick as neither white nor black, but colorful.

Here too, we access the dark body sorceries of ancient Egypt, Khem, the Black Land, here is access to the fertile radiations of the dark goddess, Black Isis, Nu-Isis, and the forbidden power-zone of Amenta. Here we are given power to enter the “storehouse of dreams,” the akashic records, the storehouse of racial and genetic memory, recapitulating the evolutionary past via the cerebellum, the back brain, Qoph, the back of the head. Thus falling backward out of time from Universe A into the dreamtime of Universe B everything is possible. Austin Osman Spare suggests gazing at one’s thumb illumined by the Moon until the eyes go out of focus, when the thumb becomes an opalescent, fantastic reflection of Oneself.

The danger is addiction to practices and substances that keep one perpetually glamoured by the Mauve Zone’s sinister delights.

According to Kenneth Grant, “Qulielfi represents the termination of the Qliphoth of the 12 zodiacal signs.” Her pathway is under the sign of the frog, a liminal being in its between-ness linking the amphibious to the terrestrial, signifying a step in (pre)human evolution, signifying the formula of the Voltigeurs.

Cort Williams describes the tunnel as follows in Qliphothic Wor(L)ds:

The tunnel connecting the Qliphoth A’arab Zaraq and Nahemoth. Venus acting upon the Earth via the influence of Pisces. Corresponds to the Tarot trump The Moon. The unholy passions of A’arab Zaraq and its ruling archdaemon, Ba’al, stirring the terrestrial bestial passions of man through the influences of the lunar orb.

The siddhis associated with this tunnel are bewitchment, illusion and the manipulation of lunar energies to befuddle and manipulate the fancies of man. The chthonic powers of the black earth animated by the nocturnal sorceries of AUB. A Qliphothic tunnel associated with transformation, bewitchment and flux. Connected with the frog and other amphibian creatures as representing the interplay of the terrestrial (Nahemoth) and the aquatic (Pisces, the ruling sign of Qulielfi). The frog/toad also as a traditional familiar of the witch and of the lunar goddess Hecate.

According to Kenneth Grant, “The 29th Tunnel is the haunt of the witch typified by Hekt, the frog-headed goddess and Lady of Transformation.” Linda Falorio writes:

The reification of the tunnel of Qulielfi exists in twilight at the borderland of sleep and waking, at the threshold of the astral world where elementals, lurkers at the threshold of the personal subconscious, lie in wait. Terrifying, alternately seducing, fantastic dreams and visions arise according to the dreamer’s temperament. The solitary witch-priestess indulging manual magick during the dark phase of her moon spins hypnagogic phantoms as a spider throwing silk from spinnerets, condensing her illusions into materiality upon the surface of the magick mirror. This, her moon magick has brought forth an astral werewolf, a type of Goetic demon with gryphon’s wings and serpent’s tail, a demon-lover, shadow-self, climbing into space-time to partner her thence to go forth at her bidding.

I do not necessarily agree with Kenneth Grant’s postulation that the magic mirror should be the only piece of ritual equipment employed (or present) when Qulielfi is evoked—I have had fabulous results in summoning her despite the fact that I don’t employ magic mirrors and prefer to employ other tools.

The Sigil of Quliefly

The sigil of the 29 qliphotic tunnel of Set is to be traced in silver – like slug-slime – on a circular stone. The sigil shows 22 inverted lunar qliphoth of the 12 zodiacal signs. The central three crescents surmount a bling eye raying downward. This symbolism refers to the three viable days of the five-day lunarflow when the phallus turns a blind eye to the Eye of the Moon as she shreds her menstruum of astral creation. Hence the magical power attributed to this 29th kala is that of Casting Illusions and Bewitchments generally. As it is written : « it from the excrement of Choronzon that one takes the material for the creation of God. »[1]

This is a chant to summon Qulielfi which I channled. I wrote it the way that it sounds– read it the way a hillbilly would and you have the right pronunciation. The third and fourth words of this chant are broken into their separate syllables: if one of the syllables is written in all caps like the LAW in LAW-taw-GORE-uh-CALL, this means that that particular syllable (LAW) is pronounced just like a known English word, so GORE is pronounced like the word GORE. The syllables with no capitalization are to be read the way that a hillybilly would sound them out. Just pronounce it the best that you can and know that is sufficient. All the people I know who’ve tried my channeled chants find them incredibly powerful, regardless of how weird they sound.

The Tarot Trump Attribution for Qulielfi

The title of the Tarot Trump ascribed to Path 29 is The Moon, its alternative title being the ‘Ruler of Flux and Reflux’, and the magic mirror is the sole piece of equipment present in the lunar temple when Qulielfi is evoked. The mirror denotes the crepuscular state of consciousness peculiar to some regions of the astral plane. It is this state that successful astral working is achieved, for the borderland od sleep and waking are the ’liers in wait’,[2] those elementals that assist in the reification of the inherent dream.[3]

The Occult Symbolism of Qulielfi

The secret symbol of this tunnel is a dreaming women performing in her twilight state the manual magick veiled beneath the symbol of the VIII°- O.T.O. The number of Quliefi confirms this symbolism for 226 is SVR, meaning ‘olla’, ‘a pot’ or ‘vase’, a glyph of the vulva in its passive and solitary phase.

The Magick Formula of Qulielfi

In contrast with his general symbolism, the magick formula of Qulief comports another element that is by no means passive. It is under the sign of the Frog, the transformer from water. This totem typifies the evolution of consciousness from the amphibious to the terrestrial state. The frog is the leaper or jumper, which implies a specific formula in connection with ‘the other side’ of the Tree of Life. In the Cult of the Black Snake this formula is refered to that of the Voltigeur, the vaulteror leaper. Michael Bertiaux alludes to the ‘pathway of the Voltigeur in connection with the voodoo ‘vever of the Marassas or Twins’.[4] The vever shows the three columns with the baton of Guède Nibho to show the way of the voltigeurs ‘as well as the pathways for the secret schools of Voodoo initiation’. He goes to say that ‘Behind each of the Sephiroth there are secret pathways… pathways developped by very specialised magicians and their apprentices within the various secret sects which are based entirely on magical discoveries and insight, and communicated by initiations on each of the secret pathways’.[5]

Charles Stansfield Jones, better known in occult litterature as Frater Achad, claim that he has jumped fom Yesod to Binah by what he termed ‘an usual method’,[6] had recourse to the secret paths alluded to by Bertiaux. According to Kenneth Grant, the deeper significance of Achad’s magical leap from Yesod to Binah is resumed by the formula of the leapers as it applies to the tunnel of Qulielfi.

Frater Achad attained a profound insight into the nature of the Abyss through his initiation into the backward paths of the Tree. It was Achad who announced the onset of the Aeon of Maat[7] with the formula of the Daughter as a balance to the present Aeon of Horus, typified by Ra-Hoor-Khuit, the Aeon of the Son. Ma-Ion[8] is the Aeon of M.A.A.T., that is being intepreted the Master of the Temple of A.’.A.’.[9] Achad had become a Master of the Temple by jumping from Yesod to Binah. He notes that ‘this had to do with the Covenant of ST, or Set, proclaimed by Aleister Crowley’.[10]

Ma-Ion suggests, by metathesis, the Mo or Mv Ayon[11] hinted at by Michael Bertiaux in his Fourth Year Grade Papers.[12] Achad approached very nearly to this Dark Doctrine when he examined Liber Al in the light of his sudden accession to his grade of M.A.A.T. According to Kenneth Grant « Instead of interpreting in the light of the secret gnosis of Daäth, he permitted his personal hatred of Crowley to distort his vision »[13], as evidenced by the following comments on the key characters of The Book of the Law : The so-called Goddess Nuit is, when understood at her true value, the Aetherial Realm of Nature, the lowest plane of the universe, without trace of consciousness, and characterized by Space. Masquerading as infinity and the Queen of Heaven. Ra-Hoor-Khut, the child of the false union of the human soul and the void is really the Zeigeist – the Time-Spirit, as opposed to the Spirit of Eternal Truth – that which perpetually denies, an dis falsity itself; masquerading as the Lord of the Universe – God. The joke upon humanity, if suc hit may be called, is that Nuit (by means of the ‘voice’ and ‘personality’ given her by Aiwass and 666) super-coats the process of dissolution by crying unto men : ‘Come unto me! Thus luring them, not to the Highest, as might be expected, but to the lowest and most negative realm of the universe the brink of the Black Abyss [The Universe ‘B’ phase of Bertiaux’s Equation]. ‘Hadit’, on the other hand, masquerading as the Lord and Giver of Life (the Knowledge of which is admittedly death [Daäth, as explained in Part I] supplies the negative idea that will, if accepted and acted upon, aid the soul in this process of self-destruction and final dissolution. ‘Ra-Hoor-Khuit’, in the Abyss, awaits the victims of this process with his promised Vengeance, which, in the meanwhile, is threatned agaist all those ‘dogs’ of Reason who might turn towards the real Truth or think of exposing the illusion and error of the ‘New Aeon’ system.[14]

Yet this is precisely the Path that the New Aeon has come to prepare, the path that will achieve its apotheosis in the Aeon of Ma Ion[15] when the Ma Ayon, or Dark Doctrine (of Daäth) becomes the formula of attainment.

Mo Ayon or Aion = 891, which is the number of Uranos (Heaven). Uranus, the planet, is assigned to Daäth as if to assert the identity of Heaven with the Place of the Abyss on the nightside of Eden. 8+9+1=XVIII, Cheth, the Great Work symbolized by the Graal of Babalon.[16] The number XVIII reduces to 9, which is that of the lunar current and of Yesod, the Place of the Secret-ion that Achad failed to find.[17] Yesod is the equivalent of Saäth on a denser level of awareness. It is the centre of the psychosexual dynamics connected with the magick of the O.T.O. But the most startling gematria of Mo aion is obtained when it is taken as Mu Aion, 177, form this is the number of Gan Eden, the Garden of Eden, the ‘lost’ paradise. Mv=46; Aion =131; total 177. The importance of these numbers has already been remarked. 131 is the number of of Samael (i.e. Satan), the Guardian on the Threshold, and of Pan, Baphomet, and Make (Set), the son of Typhon. Eliphas Levi described the number 46 (My) as ‘the key of the Mysteries’. Mv is semen; from the Egyptian word mai, male seed. It is also the word for ‘water’, the first ancestral essence that was primarily feminine. 131 (Satan) added to 535 (Kteis) yields 666, the number of the Great Beast of the City pf Choronzon which is in the Abyss. Thus, the Dark Doctrine of Daäth is of the Aeon of Maat whose mystery – as Frater Achad realized – ‘had to do with the Covenant of Set’.

It may now be understood in which sense the tunnel of Quliefi is equated with the Magic Mirror, the ‘twilight of the place’, for the moon that illumines this tunnel is of Daäth, not of Yesod.

The Appropriate Verse from Liber CCXXXI for Qulielfi

In the light of the precedent analysis of the symbolism of Qulielfi, we have this verse form Liber CCXXXI as the most appropriate : « By her spells she invoked the Scarab, the Lord Kheph-Ra, so that the water were cloven and the illusion of the towers was destroyed. » Khep-Ra is litterally the backside of Ra (the Sun), which implies of course here that we are talking about the Moon. The water refers to Mv, the water of the Abyss. The tower are those of the Black or Dark Brothers. This points to a mystery concerning the true meaning of Black Magic, for the Dark Doctrine is that of the Dark Brothers who appear upon earth (i.e. on the hither side of the Tree of Life) as Black Magicians. Crowley, it seems, was unaware of this signification, otherwise, he would not have reffered derogatively to Austin Spare as a ‘Black Magician’, which Spare assuredly was in the sense just explained, for he was an initiate of the Dark Doctrine. Frater Achad himself approached very nearly to an understanding of thhis mystery of true Black Magic, but like many occultists before and after him, he was blinded by assuming that Universe ‘B’ is ‘evil’ whereas it is – like Satan – merely the adversary of the sense of individuality that is generated in man by illusory egoidal consciousness. In Universe ‘B’ occurs the ‘dissolution… in the kisses of Nu’ (i.e. the waters of the Abyss) that Hadit promises in Al. II. 44.[18] This also explains the nature of the qliphoth, the Nashimiron or ‘malignant women’ that are said to haunt the tunnel of Qulielfi.

The Correspondant Lovecraftian Symbolism for Qulielfi

Finally, the symbolism of the leaper typified by Hekt, the frog-headed goddess of the voltigeurs of the backward paths, is emphasized by the ascription of this kala 29 of the Mangrove, the swamp-tree haunted by frogs and other members of the batrachia. Lovecraft has alluded to these creatures as those that foregather in the proximity of the Great Old Ones or their minions. Their croaking herald the emergence from Universe ‘B’ of the Forces of ‘evil’ which are – more precisely speaking – the true powers of darkness, or non-being. The mangrove is thus the Tree of Death typical of the ‘other side’ of the Tree of Life.
