The Seniors in Kelley’s Great Vision

24-SENIORS-in-kelly-grea

The Seniors of each Watchtower are described by Kelley as “six ancient men, with beards and staves in their hands.” Ave explicitly says of the twenty-four Seniors that they are “the 24 Seniors, that St. John remembereth.” Therefore their description in the fourth chapter of Revelation applies: “And round about the throne were four and twenty seats: and upon the seats I saw four and twenty elders sitting, clothed in white raiment; and they had on their heads crowns of gold.” Later, the elder arise from their seats and fall down upon their knees before the throne of Christ and “cast their crowns before the throne.”[3] The Seniors (or Senators as they are also called by Ave) are the only group of angels in the Great Vision that performs two actions. They walk out of each gate in a single rank, six abreast, in company with all the other angels who surround the King. But when they reach the center of the four Watchtowers (called the “Court” by Ave, who is making a pun on the legal court of judgment), they go to the middle and form a ring. Although nothing is described in the middle of the court, this would be the location of the throne of Christ, which is always situated in the center of everything. Ave says: “They seem to consult.”[4]

Extracting the Names of the 24 Seniors

In describing the manner of extracting the names of the Seniors to Dee, Ave says: “Now for your six Seniors: whose judgment is od God the Father, the Son, and the Holy Ghost.”[5] The act of judicial judgment is clearly central to the role of the Seniors. The Seniors represent the twenty-four hours of the say, and thus time. They sit in judgment over the actions of the human race, which occur in time. As Tyson has shown in his book Tetragrammaton, the Enochian angels conceived of the Seniors as being seated around the throne of God in the other.[6] Each ring was in two crescents of six chairs. This is indicated quite clearly in a vision Kelley experienced on January 13, 1584: “Now I see all those men, whose I saw before: And there sitteth One in a Judgment seat, with all his teeth fiery. And there sit six, on one side of him, and six on the other. And there sit twelve in a lower seat under them. All his head is a great stone; covering his head; a stone most bright, brighter ten fire.”[7]

The reason Ave says that the Seniors are “of God the Father, the Son, and the Holy Ghost” is because their names trace out the Great Cross on each Watchtower, with each name beginning from one of the two letters at the intersection of the Cross and proceeding outward. The names of the two Seniors located on the line of the Holy Spirit may be written with either six or seven letters, of the Cross is chosen to begin the name. For example, the name of the first Senior of the east may be either Abioro or Habioro, reading from either the letters at the center of the Great Cross to the left along the line of Spirit.

Ave tells Dee that he should make the names of the two Seniors located on the line of Spirit to be of seven letters “when the wrath of God is to be encreased.” The addition of the extra letters intensifies the power of the Seniors, which is the power of judgment. For the sake of uniformity, the name of all six of the Seniors are usually written with seven letters. In the following diagram, the names of the Seniors of the Watchtowers of the East are indicated in boldfaced type.

The names of the twenty-four Seniors on the Original Great Table are:

The Invocation of a Senior

invoking-a-senior

Suppose, for example, that one would like yo improve one’s appreciation for music. Such a boon could be granted by the Senior ADAEOET, “Who sings like a bird.” The magician begins by facing south toward the great Watchtower of Fire, where ADAOOT dwells.

He wears only a robe, or at least very loose-fitting and comfortable clothing. The real importance of clothing is that it must be of a type that can be forgotten or ignored. Tight clothing can interfere with concentration, and for that reason should not be worn. The same can be said for nudity; it is good if one can forget the body and not if one feels at all ackward or uncomfortable. The magician must be able to forget his body for a while. Anything that aids this is good while, on the other hand, anything that hinders this is bad. All distracting thoughts and concerns must be cast aside. Total concentration is mandatory. The magician raises his arms outward toward South and cals out the Holy Name:

“OIP-TEAA-PDOKE, may my request be granted. You who are unchanged by time, hear me. OIP-TEAA-PDOKE, thou most holy name. You are the Watchtower of the South. You are the Watchtower of Fire. All thingsreturn to you. Hear me.

LRING-MONONS, I call upin you for your music, OIP-TEAA-PDOKE.”

The magician then call upon the King of Fire:

“EDLPRNAA, O receiver of the Flames, thou who art King over Fire, assist me. Make me to be a knower of music.

EDLPRNAAH, BITOM, EDLPRNSSH, change me, renew me in your forge.

BITOM, I desire to be changed. I desire to be made anew. EDLAPRNAAH, BITOM, EDLPRNAAH.” The magician now feels the presence of the King of Fire near Him. He should feel the violent churning of this fiery quadrant around him. Now he takes his fire wand (prefertably one he has made himself) and traces a large hexagram in th air before him. This hexagram is deep violent and is drawn as shown in the Jupiter hexagram (1). He sees a violet “4” glistening in the center, which charges the hexagram wuth a toine both religious and creative (if incense is used to heighten the proper mood here, it should be of cedar or saffron).

As the magician gazes into the sparkling violet hexagram of Jupiter, he makes the final invocation:

“ADAEOET, whose voice is music, allow mw to share your songs, O ADAEOET.

May your sword cut away my ignorance. May I become new. May my old self be sacrificed as it is in ZEN, the eighteenth Aethyr. May I rise up new with your attributes. May I share your music, O ADAEOET in the hexagram showering forth his musical ability. He sees himself as a new person. He is now one who loves and appreciates music. His own inherent abilities will now surely be enhanced.

In gratitude to ADAEOT, he now banishes the Senior with a banishing hexagram ADAEOET thus returns to the Watchtower of Fire in the South.

No Senior, or any other spirit for that matter, can make something from nothing. They can only work within specific occult laws. Here the magician does not ask for the impossible. He already has a musical ability (as everyone does) buried in his subconscious. He asks only that it be brought out into manifestation. This ADAEOET can do. If properly carried out, this invocation will be effective in some degree. Although the magician will probably not be able to sit immediately at a piano and plau Handel or Bach, he probably will find that taking piano lessons is surprisingly easy and that, with practice, he can play tolerably well.
